Pharmacokinetics

Melanotan I is an engineered, synthetic form of a natural hormone regulating melanin production. Essentially, it is a synthesized form of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone, or alpha-MSH.[2] Melanotan I has a similar mechanism of action to alpha-MSH. In essence, melanotan I binds to melanin producing receptors that alpha-MSH usually binds to. This then stimulates melanin production.[2]

Scientific Studies

Studies have been conducted on the effects and possible benefits of melanotan I. In a study on adults with photosensitivity issues, the efficacy of melanotan I’s melanin producing actions were assessed. It was found effective in treating phototoxicity in such instances in Europe, and has been administered clinically as a subdermal implant.[3]
