Pharmacokinetics

Semax is a synthetic peptide, acting as an analog of adrenocorticotropic hormone. The adrenocorticotropic hormone regulates many processes related to stress and bodily rhythm.[3] When administered, semax has been found to increase levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, or BDNF. Through this increase in BDNF, it is theorized that semax optimizes cognitive and hormonal functioning.[2]

Scientific Studies

Multiple studies have been carried out to determine the effects and benefits of semax. One study on animals saw a 40% increase in BDNF levels. In this experiment, semax was used regularly and intranasally. This led researchers to the conclusion that semax modulates levels of BDNF in the hippocampus.[2] Another study looked into the effects of semax on the serotonin and dopamine systems within the brain. Subjects were injected with semax, and notable increases in activity were observed.[4]
